Intention of the software
<gemID> was developed in conjunction with small to medium sized gemstone cutters (lapidaries) in Idar-Oberstein.
While the origin of the software was a meaningful coding of stone boxes for the creation of stone lists,
soon other requirements were added to handle the classic processes and structures in the industry.
Starting from the management of high-quality single stones, industrial stones can now be mapped as well.
More than item management
The cutting of gemstones is a traditional art whose individuality and thus complexity goes far beyond the trade with standardized products.
In many cases, gemstones are not so much articles as unique specimens.
Thus, the management of gemstones must map structures that cannot be mapped with the usual item management (warehousing) of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
Such special features would be
- Sets of high-quality single stones
- Mixed lots (combination of stones with different qualities)
- Splits (temporary removal of stones from cans with a large number of stones)
- Customs clearance for exports or temporary exports
- Extensive media management for images, videos, documents with cloud availability
Interfaces
However, <gemID> does not want to be an enterprise resource planning system that maps commercial business transactions. Because from the creation of invoices, control of incoming payments, possibly reminders and transfer of business data, even simple enterprise resource planning are the better tools for the processing of legally compliant transactions.
Therefore <gemID> provides the ERP systems with the data they need to create invoices.
